You have to be online to reach your fanbase.
With more and more ways for fans to interact with bands, it can be useful for a band to have a strong online presence to chat to their fans and tell them what is coming up in the future. With social networking sites, it is easier than ever to keep your fan base informed but it still requires someone to run the sites and organize the information that is being passed out. Some bands like to get someone to run their websites and networking sites for them but a growing number are taking control of it themselves. This can save money but also means there is a direct contact between fans and band. If fans know that they can email a band member directly, they will be more inclined to get in touch. Making fans seem wanted in this way is a sure fire tip for keeping them coming to gigs and have them spreading the word about the act.
Deciding on who should run the site can be a tricky decision though. If there is anyone in the band with noticeable computer skills, it could maybe fall on them to keep the fan base up to date with what is going on. As long as the band member is happy with this, and not feel as though they have been press ganged into it, this is a simple decision to make. It’s also important to ensure the person who is updating the site has a lot of free time to keep the site up to date and respond to all the emails and messages. Not responding to a message or email can be more damaging than not providing the facility in the first place, so once your websites are set up, you really need to keep on top of the communication channels.
With so much interaction between the band and fans, don’t be surprised if the singer wants to get personally involved with the website. What better way for them to have more fans at the front of the stage screaming their name than by writing back to them in person. If you want your singer to do anything, tell him it will make him even more popular and the ego boost will be enough to have them doing anything!
Tip: Keep your info current!!!!!
