It can be a tough game trying to make it in the music industry when you’re a band that is still pretty wet behind the ears. Those who are new to the industry may not really have a clue how to get their name out and to start building a fan base. Since your band is now comfortably making a living on your music, why not share the wealth by taking these guys under your wing and showing them how it’s done?
There are a lot of extremely talented musicians out there who are committed and dedicated to their music and talent, but have no idea how to get their music heard. Help them out by sharing some information about promotion, perhaps even drop a few names of local promoters or managers that can help them get shows to play. Talk to them about marketing strategies and building fan bases by using the Internet. The Internet is full of resources musicians can use to help spread the word about their music. One of the best sites to use is Myspace. You can build a real solid base with fans from all over the world using Myspace and even network with other musicians and industry people that can help get your music out to the masses.
You can also help fellow musicians by giving them advice about the industry. There is no doubt mistakes you made as you sought to make a living with your music. Use this opportunity to help someone else from making the same mistake by sharing your stories. Give them creative advice about how to make the most out of your studio time and how to record a quality product that has a signature sound to it.
There are a whole lot of ways you can reach out and help some starving musicians make a living with their music and help make their dreams come true. This also helps you to look better in the eyes of your audience as well and may win you some fans from that band’s base as well.
If you would like to share some of the “what to do and not to do’s” with the world add your comments here. I may contact you to add them to the book I am writing to help bands balance their lives.
